This is one of the most useful and talked up of all the Young Living essential oil blends.  Just about every loyal Young Living user I know names it as a favorite, and there is a very good reason.  It works.

History

It’s unusual name comes from a band of 15th century spice traders turned thieves who applied the oils to themselves to avoid contracting the plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead and the dying.  When captured, they disclosed the formula of herbs, spices, and oils they used to protect themselves in exchange for a more lenient sentence for their crimes.  It is such a powerful and effective formula for avoiding the contraction of infectious disease that some 600 years later records of the ingredients in the infamous thieves blend remain.  Young Living combined the original formula with what modern science has learned about the effectiveness of specific essential oils. The result is a highly antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-infectious oil blend that will continue to stand the tests of time..no doubt.

Studies conducted at Webster State University during 1997 demonstrated its killing power against airborne microorganisms.  One analysis showed a 90% reduction in the number of reduction in harmful organisms after diffusing 12 minutes.  After 20 minutes of diffusing, the kill rate jumped to 93%. 

Here is a quick break down of the oils in the Thieves blend:

Clove is anti-aging, antitumoral, antifungal, antiviral, anesthetic, antioxident, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, stomach protectant, antiparasitic.  Numbing for all types of pain and useful for throat/sinus/lung infections, clove also creates a sense of protection and feelings of courage.

Lemon has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that amplify immunity.  It promotes circulation, leukocyte formation, and lymphatic function.  A 1995 Mie University study found that citrus fragrances boost immunity, induced relaxation, and reduced depression.  

Cinnamon Bark is one of the most powerful antiseptics know.  It is strongly antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal.

Eucalyptus is anti-infectious, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory.  It’s aroma helps in clearing the sinuses and lungs.

Rosemary is antiseptic and antimicrobial. It’s aroma boosts alertness and eases anxiety.
